SOLUTIONS: GOVERNMENT
The U.S.
Department of Defense has released the Defense Federal Acquisition
Regulations Supplement (DFARS), which outlines the regulations
suppliers must follow with respect to shipping the DOD RFID-tagged
goods. The document represents an important step in the DOD’s
RFID initiative to introduce track-and-trace functionality
across its supply chain.
- Near Real Time In-transit Visibility - You will be able to know where something is, when it will arrive, where it should arrive and where it will end up.
- Enhanced Inventory Management - Inventory can be managed in a much timelier manner so that tasks can be achieved more efficiently. Inventory can be accessed by your computer at any time so that you can verify asset location and quantity. The RFID tags will be able to track the packaging of an asset to its purchase and then communicate this back to a main system.
- Enhanced Item Level Visibility - The RFID tag will be able to tell you what is inside a pallet or case without having to open it.

The DOD’s RFID mandate, alongside Wal-Mart’s,
was considered a catalyzing event in RFID. With the projected
demand for RFID products and services coming from the 43,000
DOD suppliers affected by the mandate, Intelligentz is ready to help your company.
Deciphering all the information and understanding
how and when it will affect your company is a daunting task.
The last phase of the implementation is scheduled for January
2007. This date is just around the corner and the time to
become compliant is now.
